New Serverless Data Platform Uses Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2 to Help Developers Work With Data Without Dedicated Servers or Cloud Transfer Fees

Cloudflare has launched Cloudflare Basin, a new data platform designed to give developers and enterprises a simpler way to collect, store, organize and analyze data at scale.

Built on Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2, Basin provides an open, serverless environment for ingesting, storing, cataloging and querying analytical data across the tools organizations already use. Cloudflare said the platform is designed to reduce infrastructure complexity while giving teams greater control over their data. Cloudflare Basin PR

Traditional data analytics environments often require dedicated engineering teams, infrastructure and multiple systems for collecting and analyzing information. Organizations may also face additional costs when transferring data between different cloud environments.

Cloudflare said Basin addresses these challenges by storing data in an open, industry-standard format that compatible tools can access directly. Data collection, organization and analysis run on Cloudflare's network on demand, eliminating the need for customers to manage dedicated servers and removing fees for moving data in or out. Cloudflare Basin Brings Serverless Approach to Data Analytics

Dane Knecht, CTO at Cloudflare, said developers should not have to become data infrastructure operators simply to work with their own data.

“With Cloudflare Basin, we are bringing the same serverless model that developers expect from Cloudflare to analytics: no clusters to manage, no unnecessary data movement, and open standards that keep customers in control of their data,” Knecht said. Cloudflare Basin PR

According to Cloudflare, Basin is designed around three key benefits for customers.

Open Data Ownership

Basin stores data using Apache Iceberg, an open industry-standard format. This allows teams to analyze their data with compatible tools rather than being tied to a single vendor. Cloudflare Basin PR

No Dedicated Server Management

The platform operates on Cloudflare's global network, allowing developers to ingest, store and query data without provisioning or maintaining dedicated infrastructure. Cloudflare Basin PR

No Data Transfer Fees

Organizations can query data using tools across different clouds, platforms and regions without incurring data transfer fees, according to Cloudflare. Cloudflare Basin PR

Customers Highlight Basin's Data Architecture

Cloudflare said early users are already applying Basin to their data pipelines.

Dax Raad, co-founder of Anomaly and creators of the open-source AI coding agent OpenCode, said the company moved its entire data pipeline to Basin Pipelines, Catalog and SQL.

According to Raad, the company replaced its previous AWS S3 and Athena setup with a serverless architecture designed to handle its event data reliably. Cloudflare Basin PR

Julien Grobbelaar, Head of Platform at Bobsled, said Basin enables the company to build data products that can be made available across major data and AI platforms.

He added that the platform provides production-grade reliability while reducing costs through zero egress fees. Cloudflare Basin PR

Cloudflare Basin Now Generally Available

Cloudflare Basin is generally available as of October 2, 2026. Developers can begin using the platform through Cloudflare's developer resources. Cloudflare Basin PR

With Basin, Cloudflare is extending its serverless approach into data analytics, giving developers and enterprises an infrastructure model built around open data formats, on-demand processing and reduced data movement.
