Cloudflare Launches AEO Visibility Dashboard to Show Brands How They Appear in AI Recommendations
New dashboard helps marketers understand whether AI assistants are citing, mentioning, and recommending their brands
Cloudflare has launched the AEO Visibility Dashboard, the latest addition to its Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Suite. The new tool gives website owners and marketers greater visibility into whether AI assistants are recommending their businesses when customers ask relevant questions — an area that has traditionally been difficult for brands to measure.
The AEO Visibility Dashboard complements Agent Readiness, Cloudflare's existing tool that helps determine whether AI agents can discover and access a website's content. Together, the tools are designed to provide marketers with actionable insights into how AI systems discover, access, and use their content, helping them optimize their digital presence for the emerging agent-driven web.
Understanding Brand Visibility in AI Search
AI assistants are increasingly becoming an important discovery channel for consumers. However, unlike traditional search engines, brands have not had an equivalent ranking system that clearly shows how they are performing within AI-generated answers.
When a customer asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, brands have typically had little visibility into whether they were strongly recommended, briefly mentioned, cited as a source, or excluded from the response altogether.
Several tools have attempted to address this challenge by sending test prompts to AI chatbots and analyzing their responses. However, Cloudflare says this approach can be limited by the scale of testing and may produce inconsistent results when it is not combined with other data signals.
Cloudflare's approach is based on its position at the network layer between AI platforms and the websites they access. The company says this enables it to observe actual crawl and referral activity across millions of websites, providing brands with additional real-world signals beyond AI prompt sampling.
"Being discoverable used to mean ranking on a page. That's not enough anymore. The agentic era is here, and the moments that matter, like when someone asks an AI for a recommendation and gets an answer back, are happening at scale, invisibly, without most brands knowing if they're in the conversation at all," said Stephanie Cohen, Chief Strategy Officer at Cloudflare.
"Cloudflare sits at the network layer. We see actual signals: real crawl activity, real referrals, what AI systems are genuinely doing across millions of sites. That's what powers these tools. Brands can finally get a real answer to the question they've been asking: how am I showing up, and where?"
Four Metrics to Measure AI Visibility
Cloudflare says its AEO Suite is built around the principle that website owners should have visibility into how their content is being used by AI systems while retaining control over what they choose to share.
The AEO Visibility Dashboard provides several metrics designed to help brands better understand their position within AI-generated responses:
-
Citation Rate: Shows which AI platforms are using a brand's website as a trusted source and which platforms are not citing it. The metric can help marketers identify where their content is contributing to AI-generated recommendations and where further optimization may be required.
-
Mention Rate: Shows whether AI assistants mention a brand even when they do not cite its website. This distinction can help marketers determine whether the challenge is brand awareness or authority. A brand that is frequently mentioned but rarely cited may need to strengthen the authority and credibility of its content.
-
Prominence: Measures how prominently a brand appears within an AI-generated response, including how much of the response is attributed to the brand and where the brand appears. This helps distinguish between a brief reference and a more meaningful recommendation.
-
Share of Voice: Shows how a brand compares with competitors across the questions and topics that matter to its customers. Marketers can use the metric to monitor whether their visibility within AI-generated answers is increasing or declining over time.
