Veeam Brings AI Activity Monitoring and Precision Recovery to Microsoft 365
The new Intelligent ResOps offering helps organizations identify AI agents, control data exposure, reduce storage waste, and recover affected files, while previews expand to Veeam Data Platform and Okta.
Veeam Software has announced the general availability of Veeam Intelligent ResOps for Microsoft 365, an add-on to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 designed to improve visibility into enterprise data, AI agent activity, compliance risks, and recovery operations.
The offering is the first generally available product in Veeam’s Intelligent ResOps (iResOps) portfolio. It connects to Veeam Data Cloud without requiring data migration or major architectural changes. Organizations can use it to identify known and previously undetected AI agents, track AI-related file modifications, locate redundant or outdated information, and discover sensitive or regulated data.
Veeam has also opened private previews of Intelligent ResOps for Veeam Data Platform and Okta, extending the approach to backup infrastructure and identity environments.
Connecting Data Intelligence with Recovery Operations
Veeam Intelligent ResOps brings information about data, users, permissions, AI agents, activity, and protection status into a unified command environment. The aim is to help IT and resilience teams understand which information is important, where exposure exists, and whether critical data is protected.
The platform connects production data with backup context through its DataAI Command Graph. This gives teams a clearer view of data activity and protection coverage before, during, and after an incident.
“ For twenty years, the resilience question was simple: Can I recover? In the agentic AI era, the question is whether you can determine precisely what was affected, who or what touched it, and how to return precisely to a trusted state,” said Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam.
Eswaran said the offering combines Veeam’s resilience foundation, trusted by more than 26 million users, with Securiti AI’s data security, governance, and AI capabilities.
AI Adoption Increases the Need for Data Oversight
As AI agents gain the ability to read, modify, and delete enterprise information, organizations need to understand how these systems interact with business data and permissions.
According to the Veeam Data Trust & Resilience Report 2026, 88% of organizations are using or piloting AI agents, but only 7% qualify as truly AI-ready. The report also found that more than 82% of enterprises have unknown AI agents operating in their IT environments, while 95% said data-related challenges had already slowed their AI progress.
These findings highlight the need to monitor agent activity, identify unintended data changes, and confirm that recovery processes can restore information to a trusted state.
Key Capabilities for Microsoft 365 Environments
Veeam Intelligent ResOps for Microsoft 365 provides several capabilities for managing data access, protection, and recovery:
-
AI agent visibility: Identify Copilot and other AI agents, understand which sensitive information they can access, and address oversharing. Teams can also review changes or deletions at file level and reverse unwanted modifications.
-
Data discovery and compliance: Find and classify sensitive or regulated information across SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and Exchange, including visibility into who or what can access it.
-
Storage optimization: Detect redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) data and quarantine it while teams decide whether to archive or delete it.
-
Recovery readiness: Check backup coverage for business-critical information, identify protection gaps, and locate priority data when an incident occurs.
-
Natural-language queries: Allow authorized team members to ask questions about data, access, AI agents, and backup protection through built-in agents, helping inform policy improvements.
Krista Case, Principal Analyst at theCUBE Research, said organizations need better visibility into how AI agents access and change data, along with stronger methods for reconstructing actions and validating recovery. She noted that connecting data intelligence and governance with resilience operations can help organizations adopt AI while maintaining control and trust.
David Robinson, IT Systems Analyst at Renfrew County Catholic District School Board and a private-preview participant, said the product helps the organization examine AI-related access to Microsoft 365 data and identify unnecessary exposure.
Private Preview Extends to Backup and Identity Systems
For Veeam Data Platform customers, Intelligent ResOps is designed to connect existing backup servers to a unified view of protected infrastructure, workloads, and indexed files. It supports global searches across production and protected data, identifies servers at risk of missing restore points, and enables recovery of infrastructure or files with restore-point context.
The cloud-based console includes role-based access control, single sign-on, and multi-factor authentication. Three built-in AI agents support insights, data exploration, and backup administration. The offering accompanies Veeam Data Platform v13.2, which is expected to become generally available later in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Okta preview focuses on identity resilience. It creates immutable recovery points for 29 types of objects, including users, groups, applications, policies, and administrator roles. Teams can compare a live Okta environment with a known-good state, examine changes at the property level, and restore affected objects along with their relationships.
The approach is intended to help organizations repair specific identity changes without rebuilding access manually or reverting an entire tenant.
More Integrations Planned for Q4 2026
Veeam plans to begin private previews of Intelligent ResOps for GitHub and Azure DevOps during the fourth quarter of 2026. These integrations are intended to extend protection and recovery to code, pipelines, settings, and permissions.
A private preview for Google IAM is also planned for selected customers, expanding the portfolio’s coverage of identity platforms.
Rehan Jalil, President of Products and Technology at Veeam, said customers are looking for a unified view of visibility, controls, and resilience rather than separate tools with conflicting information. He described Microsoft 365 as the first step in extending the model to backup infrastructure and identity systems.
Availability
Veeam Intelligent ResOps for Microsoft 365 is generally available as an add-on to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 in Foundation and Advanced editions. It is also available through Veeam Cloud & Service Providers.
Intelligent ResOps for Veeam Data Platform and Okta is available in private preview to qualified customers. Private previews for GitHub, Azure DevOps, and Google IAM are planned for Q4 2026. Preview features may change.
