MongoDB

Former Salesforce executive takes charge of Australia and New Zealand operations as organisations accelerate application modernisation and move AI workloads into production.

MongoDB has appointed Alex Newman as Area Vice President for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), strengthening its regional leadership as enterprises increase investments in application modernisation, enterprise data infrastructure and production-scale artificial intelligence.

Based in Sydney, Newman will lead MongoDB’s ANZ business, focusing on customer relationships, regional growth and helping organisations scale AI workloads on the company’s intelligent data platform. He brings more than 20 years of experience in technology and go-to-market leadership, having previously served as Regional Vice President at Salesforce. His earlier senior roles include positions at Informatica, EMC and Macquarie Telecom.

Newman joins as demand grows for data platforms capable of supporting AI-driven applications and real-time workloads. MongoDB counts several prominent organisations across the region among its customers, including healthtech company Heidi, fintech firm Lendi Group, Woolworths Group, Bendigo Bank, New Aim and New Zealand-based Pathfinder Labs.

Heidi uses MongoDB to support its AI-powered clinical documentation platform, while Pathfinder Labs applies its AI technology to help law enforcement solve cases. Large enterprises, including Woolworths and Bendigo Bank, use the platform for business-critical applications.

“ The data layer is where AI succeeds or fails, and I believe MongoDB’s intelligent data platform is positioned to be the standard for AI.” — Alex Newman, Area Vice President, Australia and New Zealand, MongoDB

Richard Scott, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan at MongoDB, said Newman brings enterprise data and AI experience, along with a strong track record of building teams and customer relationships.

Newman will report directly to Scott, who was recently appointed to lead MongoDB’s Asia Pacific and Japan business.

Australia also plays a significant role in MongoDB’s global engineering operations. Its local team includes more than 70 engineers working on core platform innovations, including the global storage engine and MongoDB Atlas Infinite. Their work supports the company’s customer base of more than 70,000 organisations worldwide.

Newman said he would prioritise growing the regional team and helping customers realise business outcomes from AI and trusted enterprise data.

The appointment reinforces MongoDB’s focus on positioning its platform as a foundation for organisations moving AI initiatives beyond experimentation and into production.
