The Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITEC), Government of Assam, has unveiled a state-wide internship programme designed to provide engineering students with hands-on exposure to real-world IT projects.
The initiative is open to students pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology from AICTE-recognised institutions in Assam. Internships will be hosted at DITEC headquarters in Guwahati for a period of 4 to 8 weeks, depending on academic requirements. Interns will gain first-hand experience working on live government projects under the guidance of senior officials and technical experts. Successful participants will receive certification from the Directorate.
This programme seeks to bridge the academia–industry divide by giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning to practical challenges. It also helps the government identify emerging talent early, while fostering innovation and fresh thinking in digital governance.
Beyond technical skills, the internship emphasises collaboration, communication, and structured problem-solving, ensuring students build essential soft skills alongside industry-relevant expertise. The initiative also supports local talent retention by creating meaningful opportunities within Assam and offering exposure to the tools, technologies, and ecosystems driving today’s digital transformation.
Importantly, the programme prioritises inclusivity, encouraging participation from students in rural and underrepresented communities. By nurturing confidence, entrepreneurial thinking, and research-driven contributions, the initiative strengthens ties between academia and government, while enhancing the reputation of Assam’s technical institutions.
Under the leadership of Ashwani Kumar, Director of DITEC, this internship reflects the Government of Assam’s commitment to creating a tech-ready youth population and positioning the state as an emerging hub for technology and innovation.
